Excuses for my absence – Day 13

Day 13, Monday: Issue a public apology. This can be as funny or as serious or as creative as you want it to be.

For me – there is one big negative aspect about living faraway from my home country – and that’s being separated from the people I love. Of course, there are other things I miss such as  beautiful nature, non-poluted air, amazing seafood, large living space. However, these are all nice-to-have rather then the real deal-breakers. I go back and forth on this topic quite often as I feel somewhat guilty for missing out on so many things – important milestones, birthdays, weddings, children growing up, people passing. After all, who and what we surround ourselves with is what make up our lives and memories.

Saying that,  when it comes to  myself – I would not be the same person if I removed all the experiences, memories and people I have come across over the years. I love the adventurous streak of my life and  knowing myself, I would probably do the same all over again. It’s true that life is about choices, but I have come to believe that one thing doesn’t have to exclude the other. Despite not always physically being there , I would do anything-anytime-anywhere for the people who are really important to me. No distance could ever take that away, and that’s sometimes more than what people right under your nose would do. I remember a clever young girl once told me that it’s not about quantity but the quality of people, and it’s with that mindset I try to live my life.

Nonetheless, this public apology goes to all my dear ones – the days and memories I missed  – please know that you are always in my heart.
(Sorry for being so melodramatic – these past few days has just been very intense).

  1. I’m sorry I didn’t think of writing something similar. I live a long way from my friends and family too – more than anything I am sorry if my nieces and nephews grow up thinking I don’t care or think about them as much as I do. Lovely post and it doesn’t come across as even slightly melodramatic.
