Weather Sickness – Day 20

Day 20, Monday: Get real. Share something you’re struggling with right now.

I’m really struggling with weather sickness right now. And quite badly so. Yes, you heard me right – there is something called weather sickness. It can be likened to altitude sickness and decompression illness and hit those who are sensitive to the level of air pressure also know as atmospheric pressure. Yesterday was over over 31 degres Celsius, +91 % humidity and abnormally low air pressure. I woke up with a lingering body ache that migrated to even worse symptoms of migraine and fatigue later during the day. I learned that this happens because your body has learned to function in a certain pressure, and when that changes, it produces illness like symptoms. If you are familiar with the saying “silence before the storm” you get an idea what happens when atmospheric pressure changes; the air is abnormally heavy and everything around you seem to go in slow motion.

I have known for quite some time that I’m sensitive to the weather changes but it has developed worse in Hong Kong due to all the cyclons and typhoons. The first time I really experienced the ” silence before the storm” was in 2004 in Phuket, just moments before the Indian Ocean Tsunami hit the shore. Me and my family was having breakfast and I had a lingering- awkward – feeling. I recall telling my mom and dad, who did not pick upon it, that “something” was going-on. Only few minutes after uttering those words – people came running from the beach – screaming, bleeding, pale by shock. I cannot explain it a better way as it’s an invisible phenomena and feeling; something you can not touch or see – only a reference to your own inner self.

Day 12, Sunday: What do you miss? (a person, a thing, a place, a time of your life…)
Day 13, Monday: Issue a public apology. This can be as funny or as serious or as creative as you want it to be.
Day 14, Tuesday: Ten things that make you really happy
Day 15, Wednesday: A Day in the life (include photos from throughout your typical day – this could be “a photo an hour” if you’d like)
Day 16, Thursday: Something difficult about your “lot in life” and how you’re working to overcome it
Day 17, Friday: A favorite photo of yourself and why
Day 18, Saturday: Tell a story from your childhood. Dig deep and try to be descriptive about what you remember and how you felt.
Day 19, Sunday: Five of your favorite blogs and what you love about them
Day 20, Monday: Get real. Share something you’re struggling with right now.
Day 21, Tuesday: A list of links to your favorite posts in your archives
Day 22, Wednesday: Rant about something. Get up on your soapbox and tell us how you really feel. (a pet peeve, a current event, a controversial topic, something your husband or roommate or neighbor or boss does that really ticks you off)
